How would you define patriarchy?
It’s a dad being in charge of a family
How has patriarchy hurt you?
It hasn’t really as my mum was a strong woman so kept my dad in check when he stepped out of line. Saying that, I feel that my dad’s attitude to my mum’s mental health problems and how we were to deal with it as a family was partially responsible for her mental state not improving which eventually leading to her suicide.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I’m a teacher so adopt the role of “big brother” in the classroom. While I try to lead by example and impart knowledge in a positive way, I do often regress back to my childhood days and treat the pupils as I would my younger sisters.
