Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
An embedded, often invisible system of privilege for men that exists all over the world and gives us skewed representation in politics, business leadership and other areas of public life as well as a framework of socialised stereotypes which facilitate the continued subjugation of women.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
It has made my wife very cross.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
This is a good question – probably in lots of ways I’m not even conscious of. I work in a male-dominated industry and have written thoughtlessly crass and sexist things which have perpetuated inequality and must have made female readers feel awful. I’ve hired a male-only team.
How would you define masculinity?
*I* would define it broadly and flexibly. But I think what’s understood by it generally is an aggressive idea of strength and self-importance.
Does misandry exist?
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
Only in a way that has advantaged me
What best describes you?
