Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
A social system in which power is primarily vested in male members of society.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
I was raised by a single mother. Among other things, patriarchy meant that she received less compensation than her male colleagues for doing the same job and was less likely to be promoted. This affected her quality of life and the quality of life for her child (i.e., me).
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I don’t know.
How would you define masculinity?
Exhibiting characteristics associated with male social norms. This, of course, varies from culture to culture. E.g., skirts in England or the U.S. are not masculine. Call it a kilt in Scotland or a lava-lava in the South Pacific, and it’s masculine.
Does misandry exist?
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
