Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
Beyond the strict anthropological definition of the word, patriarchy is used to refer to the system of male priveledging that values men and (and the ever changing ideal of) masculinity over women and those who do not fit a masculine-male model.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
Patriarchy, in as much as it represents in one word the current status of the social construction of masculinity, is hurtful to men by way of restricting freedom of expression, imposing unrealistic hegemonic ideals, and many other ways that come about through the perpetuation of patriarchal norms.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
Simply by being part of it. You can’t be neutral on a moving train, and I was. Inactivity is an active vote for the status quo.
How would you define masculinity?
System of expectations relating to the socially constructed patterns of behaviors recognized as ideally attributable to men.
Does misandry exist?
Does it exist? Maybe. But it’s about as effective an argument against feminist endeavor as ‘Reverse racism’ is to civil rights. Which is to say not at all.
