Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
Domination of society by men.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
Patriarchal societies create and reinforce certain types of behaviour for men as being normal. Aggression, competitiveness and greed are high up the list, traits which aren’t dominant in me (i have my moments, obviously). When I was younger this meant I didn’t feel like I fitted in and that I was ‘manly’ enough. Now I’ve either given up caring or I’ve absorbed enough of those traits to be normal.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I’ve tried not to, mostly by being aware of it and trying to avoid falling into stereotypes. But I’m sure I’ve not paid attention to women’s opinions or dismissed them as not smart/worthwhile on occasions because of a patriarchal mindset.
How would you define masculinity?
You can’t define one masculinity. There are lots of different types.
Does misandry exist?
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
What best describes you?
An ally to feminism
