Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
The (mostly invisible) structures within a given society which protects the interests of men at the expense of the interests of women.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
I am a man, hurting me is not patriarchy’s job. While it may have impeded my personal and psychological development to some extent, I’ll take that over the endless shit-storm of sexism in just about every sphere of existence that women have to put up with.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I try to be aware of my privelege and not be an arse, but I’ve been subject to 48 years of conditioning so I’ve probably expressed this occassionally. I treated girls badly when I was a teenager. Nothing criminal, but I cringe to think now.
How would you define masculinity?
Either an simple expression of primary and secondary sexual characteristics, or a culturally driven complex of values constructed around those characteristics. Tough question.
Does misandry exist?
The word exists and describes something which can be described, but then so does “unicorn farts”
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
Only in a way that has advantaged me
What best describes you?
