Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
A social system in which positions of power and authority are predominantly held by males.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
It places expectations on me that I may not always want to fulfill. Expressing that on would usually be met with a “oh poor you”, and I agree we have the better end of the expectations, but that doesn’t make all of the expectations desirable.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I have lower expectations for the skills of a female than a male in my line of work (software), I try to give them the benefit of a clean slate to start with, but I am sure I have a bias reinforced by culture. I do not believe they are less inherently capable, but I do believe society makes it more difficult for them to excel. So I am sure that bias has been hurtful, but cannot recall intentionally hurting people based on this.
How would you define masculinity?
Strength. Perseverance. Integrity. Honor. All traits I’d prefer were gender neutral.
Does misandry exist?
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
What best describes you?
