Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
The system that places more value on male experiences and demeans anyone who doesn’t fit that archetype. It’s pervasive and it’s damaging.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
I have a fair amount of privilege as a white cis man but as a gay person I find myself constantly checking my behaviours in public in case they’re not seen as masculine enough.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
Pervasive sexism is everywhere, so probably many more times than I even realise. Yes, it’s uncomfortable when you’re challenged on it, but so what.
How would you define masculinity?
My personal definition would be masculinity should just be whatever the fuck you think it is – these ideas are completely arbitrary.
Does misandry exist?
It’s technically a thing, but not to the same extent as misogyny – misandry isn’t backed up by structural systems of oppression.
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
Only in a way that has advantaged me
What best describes you?
An ally to feminism
