Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
In general, men have more power than non-men. Attributes that are considered more masculine are valued above those that are considered less masculine.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
I do not feel free to be myself when that is not what is expected of a man. I am a naturally timid and person, and I feel that I am often expected to be otherwise. That said, it has not directly hurt me very much.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I believe that the worst ways I have done this, I am probably still oblivious to. I know that I have participated in being dismissive of my female friends’ opinions on the basis of gender and been oblivious to having done so until it was pointed out to me later.
How would you define masculinity?
A cultural stereotype that varies over time, but always seems to include things like assertiveness and/or aggression, physical strength, emotional fortitude, confidence, and risk-taking.
Does misandry exist?
I think that some amount of misandry humor is OK & healthy.
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
What best describes you?
