About the show: Dave Pickering takes us on a personal journey through gender as he tries to explain masculinity both to you and to himself. Part true storytelling, part TED talk and part apology, the show looks at how the patriarchy hurts men too; how the patriarchy has hurt him, and how he has hurt people because of patriarchy. Drawing on an anonymous survey of 1000 men, feminist theory, internet memes and his life experience, Dave will explain the conclusions he Read More ...
Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
A bullshit conspiracy by some very bitter militant feminists that all men are members of an international organisation designed to: Keup women in their current roles and no higher/ Supres womens rights because apparently even though the patriarchy is supposed to be this big powerful thing, that has been going on since the dawn of humanity, theydropped the balling in the last century regarding ;letting women have rights/ a convientinet excuse for Jessica Valenti and her ilk to rail against something they don’t like as it has links to the patriarchy (like christmas, or thomas the tank engine – seriously look it up)/ A convient catch-all excuse for when a vocal woman can’t suceede in a business (although sexism may be behind some cases) In short, rather than accept that some people are always going to be sexist arseholes and that some companies are run by those people certain hysterical idiots would rather fantasise about a vast conspricy of men deliberately focused on keeping them down and men in power.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
You can’t be hurt by something that doesn’t exit.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
No (see above) on an unrelated note: I’ve also tried not to be sexist either.
How would you define masculinity?
Arbitary character traits that some people decided better suitted men than women. (This is why I depise so called feminists like Anita Sarkensian who basically dismisses any female character as a Ms. Male character unless they have exclusively “feminine characteristics”)
Does misandry exist?
Almost any mention ‘maculinity’ these days is usually in the context of how ‘toxic’ it is
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
I may have slightly benefitted from it, but only in the sense that I wasn’t actively discriminated against
What best describes you?
I refuse to call myself a feminist now after seeing that movement get dragged into the mud by hysterical fanatics
