Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
A society which is fundamentally ruled by men and in which women are seen as inferior to men and, as such, are considered second class citizens.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
I’m a man, so patriarchy hasn’t hurt me at all. Also, because I’m a white man, I’m in the most priviledged group in the world. It sucks. I’d rather we all have the same rights and priviledges.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I try not to. I consider myself a feminist and am very pro equality. Women are as strong, intelligent and capable as men. There is no difference except our gender.
How would you define masculinity?
Wow, tough question. My initial answer was that my definition of masculinity was to be male. I hate that the stereotype for masculinity is that men have to be brave and strong and provide for ‘his woman’. I prefer to think of masculinity as more of a strength of character and a product of values and behaviours.
