Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
So no easy warm up questions then Dave? The systematic and institutionalised marginalisation based on gender favoring the male and the masculine agency.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
On a basic level I was occasionally picked on I school for having long hair and not enjoying sports. But the wider system hurts us all every day by putting obstacles in the way of women to reach their full potential and enforcing men to fit into predefined gender roles in various aspects of their lives. The fact that there are few make contraceptive options that work effectively for me has caused me distress and caused women I have loved to suffer at the hands of hormone treatments. I expect that the fact the burden of contraception is generally placed on the woman is due in part to patriarchy.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I fully expect so. I think mostly in subconcious ways influenced by the circumstances of the society I find myself in.
How would you define masculinity?
An abstract and wholly imagined characteristic based around power, aggression, heroism, bravery, the phallus and balls (both testicular and sports).
Does misandry exist?
I don’t know what misandry is!
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
in ways that has advantaged me more than the reverse.
What best describes you?
also a general equalist based on race etc
