About the show: Dave Pickering takes us on a personal journey through gender as he tries to explain masculinity both to you and to himself. Part true storytelling, part TED talk and part apology, the show looks at how the patriarchy hurts men too; how the patriarchy has hurt him, and how he has hurt people because of patriarchy. Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
Men rule most of the world.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
Lots of men who rule the world also happen to be psychopaths who enjoy killing. Might be better if women ruled the world.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
I honestly don’t know.
How would you define masculinity?
Strong, but silent. Sensitive but only about women and children’s feelings, not about your own because that is whining. Good at sports, DIY, and tough. Big dick. (I don’t think these things are important to being a good man, but these are things that have the potential to make me feel emasculated and things you hear women talk about when wanting a ‘real man’)
Does misandry exist?
There is a website called “I Hate Men”, so how can there not be? Like any other goup there will be people who think we are all the same and make judgments, but you can’t complain about though because that’s whiny.
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
Only very mild predjudice. Petty little things that are more annoying on principle than doing any real damage.
What best describes you?
An ally to feminism
