Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
Patriarchy is the set of systemic conditions that give men a position of privilege in most societies.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
I am a cisgendered heterosexual man, so it hasn’t.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
When I was younger (i.e. high-school aged) I had some views that were somewhat misogynistic (due mostly to being raised in a patriarchal society) so I’m sure I’ve hurt people in the past, but I can’t point to any specific, significant examples. Since then I’ve done my best to work past any of those sort of biases.
How would you define masculinity?
Masculinity is the collection of traits/views that our society expects a man to have/express, e.g. stoicism w.r.t. emotions, physical strength, etc.
Does misandry exist?
I’m sure it’s possible that there are misandrist people who hate all men, but misandry in the sense of “a systemic oppression of men” does not exist in our society. Put shortly: Misandry don’t real.
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
Only in a way that has advantaged me
What best describes you?
