Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
The idea that men: 1. Are somehow superior to women 2. Can do certain things that women cannot/should not. 3. Cannot/should not do certain things because it’s the woman’s job.
How has patriarchy hurt you?
Not being able to express what I feel emotionally because if I did that I would be ‘acting like a girl’.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
By saying hurtful things. By behaving in ways that expressed the systemic bias against women that was so deeply ingrained. It was a tough task to get rid of it and become a better person.
How would you define masculinity?
Of being related to being a man. I feel masculinity should be define only by the physiological aspects of being a man. And it should be the individual’s choice if they want to identify themselves as a man.
