It hasn’t.

How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?

Some archaic biblical notion of fathers ruling families. Load of nonsense.

How would you define masculinity?

The set of attributes, attitudes, behaviours and tendencies most typically exhibited by males of the species.

Respondent 976

Does patriarchy exist?

Yes

How would you define patriarchy?

A system of constructs that keeps men in a dominant and privileged position.

How has patriarchy hurt you?

Yes. Gender can be a construct too. I might have a penis and I might be heterosexual, but that does not mean I am the “man” that culture defines. Often people/society project an image of “man” on me that does not fit me at all, and (for example) expect me to make fun of women and their capabilities (as a programmer, as a car driver, …). I am privileged because of my biological sex and sexual orientation. I am hurt when I am confronted with the consequences of that privilege. Strongly feeling people are all inherently equal, I strongly despise this kind of system. That said, I think the way patriarchy hurts me is nothing compared to the damage patriarchy does to women.

How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?

I could do more with my privileges: I could be an ally more often. And I have been ignorant too often – even if we consider ourselves as “trying to do what is ethically correct as much as we can”, we still need to inform ourselves. I’ve consumed porn, and this way supported the porn industry, which is a strong pillar of patriarchy in the west (abuse and objectification of women as part of the free market, to be “consumed”).

How would you define masculinity?

A set of constructs legitimizing itself by pointing to some biological aspects that are shared by around 50% of the population.

Does misandry exist?

Yes

All people are capable of hating others based on their skin/gender/…

Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?

Yes

I do not fit in the mold society expects me too, but many people still act as if I do or should do.

What best describes you?

An ally to feminism

Respondent 972

Does patriarchy exist?

Yes

How would you define patriarchy?

It’s when everymeaningful decision is taken by and for men.

How has patriarchy hurt you?

By making me question my virility instead of the toxicity of my relationship. “If it’s not satisfactory it must be because I’m not man enough”.

How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?

I considered that women needed my help, by default.

How would you define masculinity?

It’s being a man while still being human. Every patriarchal rule deshumanize men.

Does misandry exist?

Yes

But only in very, very rare microcosms.

Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?

No

What best describes you?

None of the above

a human.

Respondent 970

Does patriarchy exist?

Yes

How would you define patriarchy?

You should have an “elaborate” section for question 1. I’m not sure, it obviously refers to the fact that men have certain privileges over women but the world itself implies that there is a group of individuals dedicated to upholding said privileges, (The Patriarchs?) which doesn’t seem to be the case. While obviously some people would prefer to hold onto their privileges, the majority of people seem to just go with the flow. Not passing any moral judgement on that, but it is the truth.

How has patriarchy hurt you?

Not in any noticeable way. I had to go outside in P.E. lessons and play football in winter when the girls got to stay inside and play netball? Does that count?

How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?

I can’t think of a way that I have. That doesn’t mean I haven’t in some way, but I’m currently unaware of it.

How would you define masculinity?

Physical Strength/Unemotional(other than anger)/Unintelligent. Maleness is not an inherently masculine trait, masculinity only becomes an issue (toxic masculinity being the in term) when people a forced into it and it defines them, i.e. people doing stupid/hurtful/dangerous things in an effort to impress some other with how masculine they are.

Does misandry exist?

Yes

In the sense that you can hate men, it’s not a societal issue on the scale of mysogyny.

Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?

Maybe

What best describes you?

Torn between ally and egalataruan/equalist. Some feminists say men can’t be feminists or even allies, but I agree with the principles of feminism and would have not issues calling myself a feminist.

Respondent 966

Does patriarchy exist?

Yes

How would you define patriarchy?

a system that privileges men over women

How has patriarchy hurt you?

how hasn’t it. I’m a fat disabled queer intersex trans man.

How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?

when I was a teenager, I tried to be a “real man” in such a way that it was bad for all my relationships – romantic, familial, friends, all of them. I tried to be “right” all the time, to be “strong” all the time, to be infallible. I expended so much energy lashing out because I had been hurt in so many ways and I didn’t know how else to deal with it but to try and control everything I could, because maybe if I could then the world would stop hurting me. Of course, it doesn’t work that way, and no one is infallible – but especially no teenager is. I was lucky – I grew out of this before I hit adulthood. but it happened.

How would you define masculinity?

a tricky question. it’s a feeling mostly, I think. but like almost every gender feeling, like colours, we will never know if it feels the same to others that it does to us. it is also a physical expression I think, hair and sharp lines, beer and exertion, gruffness and protectiveness.

Does misandry exist?

Yes

I don’t think misandry exists in a systemic way, that’s ridiculous. but my mother threatened to kill me when I told her I was a man, because “men are worthless”, so I cannot say that it does not exist on a smaller scale.

Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?

Yes

What best describes you?

A feminist

I know some people think a man can’t be a feminist because he hasn’t lived as a woman. But I have lived as a woman, so if that is the only problem, it is cis centric and false.

Respondent 964

Does patriarchy exist?

Yes

How would you define patriarchy?

In a short survey monkey box – that roles are defined more often than not by men

How has patriarchy hurt you?

See answer to 2 – who says having a Y chromosome means we know everything.

How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?

Remaining silent would probably be the biggest one especially with respect to obvious issues like equal pay for equal wotk

How would you define masculinity?

Box is too small. :-) at a high level masculinity is socially imposed (being a soldier is a masculine role at least in part due to historical and body mass averages)

Does misandry exist?

Yes

People can choose any reason for disliking anyone .. Women are people so misandry can exist. whether it is widely an issue I have no idea (I don’t experience it often)

Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?

Yes

most of it is just women being as thoughtless and inconsiderate as they accuse men of being

What best describes you?

None of the above
