A system which aggressively polices gender roles, in which men are expected to control and dominate, and women to care and nurture.

It limits my self-expression.

I find myself talking over women. And I find myself judging women on what they’re wearing in a way that I wouldn’t do if they were male. And I sometimes mis-gender trans people.

The systematic oppression of women in all walks of society.

It hasn’t, really. I guess since becoming Moreno aware of patriarchy I’ve become much less tolerant of misogynistic attitudes and comments which has resulted in the breakdown of many of my friendships (with men, obviously).

Too many to list. Neglected women I know and have had relationships with due to my ignorance and lack of understanding.

personally, as a middle aged white man – it hurts me from my being “tarred” with that brush of being, well, a middle aged white man (most of the patriarchs are white men of this age).

The problem in society whereby men have an objectively easier life than anyone that isn’t a man.

It has not. I fear I have benefited hugely from the patriarchy.

I have employed other people in place of perfectly well qualified men in order to make my team diversity stats look better. You could argue that the men were directly affected by the patriarchy’s influence there.

By defining a set of expectations that, though unspoken, expect certain attitudes towards violence, pain, and independence, that quite frankly I am unable to meet. Moreover – this is a position from which it is contemptible to complain, couched as it is in privilege

For Christ sake – why do we always assume the world is binary. Misogyny is cause by a set of expectations that are woven into the fabric of society – to attempt to deconstruct that does not automatically assume a hatred, or a prejudice. This is the rage of the realignment of a society – yes there is pain, but that doesn’t presuppose a conscious attack.
