About the show: Dave Pickering takes us on a personal journey through gender as he tries to explain masculinity both to you and to himself. Does patriarchy exist?
How would you define patriarchy?
How has patriarchy hurt you?
It’s an invention so by definition it couldn’t have? But obviously the behavior of those who believe it is real has hurt me so… It turned a bunch of insecure people into monsters who go around creating a culture of fear and hate which is no fun to live in.
How have you hurt people in a way influenced by patriachy?
The very notion of doing to others what I don’t want done to myself disgusts me.
How would you define masculinity?
Are you trying to trip me into attributing something to being male which has nothing to do with it? I don’t know and any attempt at answering this question would tell you more about me and what I’d project onto my idea of a decent human being than what masculinity actually is. How about biological traits? I guess a masculine person would exhibit the biological markers of a male? And for those who don’t or break the mold well I guess we should just be tolerant of the way they are and be decent human beings to them.
Does misandry exist?
Getting called a monster by women over and over because of something someone else did makes you wonder…
Have you experienced gender and/or sex related prejudice?
What best describes you?
Don’t all those choices mean the same thing?
